District Primary Purpose:   To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

Department Primary Purpose:  To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

Qualifications:                                            

Education/Certification:  Option 1: a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with two years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching; Option 2: an associates' degree from an accredited institution with two years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching; Option 3: a high school diploma or equivalent with five years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching.

Experience/Knowledge Be knowledgeable in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, and Texas Education Agency requirements.  Additionally, be knowledgeable in teaching techniques and methodology, in the physical, mental and emotional child development process, and special needs of exceptional learners.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and the times designated.  

2. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.  

3. Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor within the effective schools research and framework for school excellence.  

4. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.  

5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.  

6. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.  

7. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.  

8. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation to accomplish instructional goals and objectives.  

9. Assist in formulating, upholding, and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.  

10. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.  

11. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.  

12. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.  

13. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.  

14. Establish and maintain cooperative and professional relations with others.  

15. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

16. Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.  

17. Accept responsibilities for co-curricular activities as assigned when these activities do not interfere with a teacher’s primary teaching assignment.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data.  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Ability to interpret and implement TEA rules and regulations.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Occasional prolonged hours, regular physical demands of stooping, lifting, and other strenuous demands of job performance.
