Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade: A06, 8HR
Qualifications:
College hours, high school diploma or GED
Current ASE and/or TASBT certification in vehicle repair (preferred)
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
School Bus Driver Certification or able to obtain with six months of hire date
Three years mechanical experience in vehicle repair and/or other related experience
Pass annual physical in accordance with state law
Negative result on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
Able to communicate in English (written and oral)
Able to read and interpret maps and routes
Able to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits
Able to work productively with minimal supervision
Formal training in vehicle repair (preferred)
Tools of the trade to be provided by employee
Primary Purpose:
Capable of making mechanical repairs to the district’s fleet while providing support in the daily requirements of the transportation department. Help provide for a safe and reliable vehicle for the transport of students and employees of KISD. Safely drive students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department. Safely transport students and staff to and from district sanctioned activities. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students, and the community.

Equipment Used:
Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks, and lift equipment. School bus and district vehicles, two-way radios and telephones. School bus and all related equipment.
Working Conditions:
Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting (in excess of 100 pounds), carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to heat, dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, environmental allergens, gasoline and diesel fuel. Prolonged driving and sitting. Irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours
