Job Summary

Midstream Transportation in Center, TX is seeking a Mechanic Helper! This role is responsible for diagnosing and repairing a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and brake system issues while performing routine maintenance and completing daily work orders and parts requests. This role also supports safe shop operations, occasional service calls, and general upkeep of the work area.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses problems and repairs brakes, hydraulic systems, valves, pumps, and electrical problems.
  • Performs tune-ups on vehicles as needed
  • Complete reports, work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties as required daily
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations
  • Maintaining hubs and axles and adjusting or replacing them when required
  • Checking and repairing the brake, electrical, and hydraulic system
  • Orders parts as needed to maintain stock; picks up parts
  • Makes service calls as needed
  • Cleans shop, storage area and parts room
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven work experience as a mechanic and/or welder
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiar with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and brake systems
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Experience with MC 331 and DOT 407 trailers a plus

Education, Certification, Licenses Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • ASE, Diesel Mechanic, or Hydraulics/Welding certifications a plus

Physical, Mental, and Behavioral Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to heavy weights of 20 to 100 lbs. for approximately 90% of the work shift
  • Ability to regularly climb in and out of vehicles multiple times per work shift
  • Good hand eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and visual acuity to operate equipment is required, including at night
  • Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms 
  • Must be able to speak and hear
  • If applicable, position is subject to pre-hire DOT medical certification requirements and drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as a physical abilities test performed by a company provider
  • Must pass pre-employment screening and background check
  • Position may require working evening hours and weekends as needed
  • Work is normally performed outside where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes, airborne particles, and gases is common
