Bandera ISD Transportation Department is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join the BISD Transportation Team.
Start Date: Immediate
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Primary Purpose:
Perform mechanical repairs/replacements to ensure proper fleet performance and safety of district vehicles. Completed scheduled maintenance and projects as assigned based upon established required procedures.
Qualifications:
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class B) w/School Bus Transport & Passenger Vehicle (S, P) endorsements.
- If applicant does not currently hold a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsement, the Superintendent may authorize a grace period to extend no longer than the 6th month of employment before the applicant must have the required licensing.
- State of Texas School Bus Certification
- If the applicant doe not possess the required certification, the Superintendent may authorize a grace period to extend no longer than the 6th month of employment before the applicant must have the required licensing.
*** Failure to comply with required district Licensing and Certifications deadlines will result In the school district terminating employment based upon hiring requirements not being met in a timely manner.
Required Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to diagnose fleet mechanical problems and perform necessary repairs with necessary supervision
- Ability to operate necessary tools and equipment in volved in fleet repair
- Ability to pass required bus driver safety training
- Ability to operate a school bus and other fleet vehicles
- Ability to lift heavy objects (ex: mechanical parts, equipment, etc.)
- Ability to operate a forklift
Experience:
At least one (1) year experience in diesel mechanics is highly preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintenance and Repairs of district fleet vehicles
- Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical, electrical, and emissions problems in vehicles
- Perform and complete mechanical repairs as necessary (repair/replace)
- Welding and Cutting (Stick/MIG/TIG/Oxyacetylene)
- Minor body work
- Fleet service according to periodic preventative maintenance schedules
- Complete preventative maintenance on shop equipment
- Maintain accurate/updated records of all maintenance/repairs
- Vehicle inspection to insure safe operating conditions of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights.

- Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties
- Correct unsafe conditions and report any unsafe conditions to the Director of Transportation
- Other
- Maintain accurate records of time and materials
- Operate buses and other vehicles as needed
- Work irregular hours as needed
- Working Conditions
- Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching is required
- Work may be outside or inside of facilities
- Possible exposure to elements of weather
