Aggieland Safari is looking for part-time or full-time non-exempt workers to join our Pasture Management & Maintenance teams. We are a drive-thru safari and walk-thru adventure zoo park spanning over 250 acres located in Bryan, Texas at 18075 FM 974. This position reports to the Zoo Director and Animal Care Supervisor, and it involves primarily working in two different roles at the park; "Pasture Management" in our Drive-Thru Safari and "Maintenance" across the whole facility. Pasture managers are responsible for upkeeping pastures within the drive-thru safari. Primary duties include performing daily animal care tasks such as providing water, feed, & hay, monitoring animals/herds and fencing/structures, reporting herd health concerns, and monitoring guests in the drive-thru safari. Maintenance technicians perform daily maintenance and repair tasks across the zoo property involving vehicles, equipment, buildings, animal enclosures/habitats, fences, etc. Applicants should feel comfortable around animals, as you will be required to work near animals for many aspects of the job. The employee will not be required/allowed to go in confined enclosures free-contact with dangerous animals. All Aggieland Safari team members are required to undergo training in Guest Services (retail) and Park Services (custodial) as we place a strong emphasis on cross-training and team collaboration!



Required qualifications / experience:

  • At least 18 years of age or older.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must have current, valid Driver License.
  • Able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and tools/power tools.
  • Knowledge and experience of hoofstock management practices (domestic or exotic).
  • Comfortable working directly and indirectly with hoofstock and exotic animal species.



Experience preferred/desired:

  • Direct experience working with exotic hoofstock (e.g. deer, antelope) in either a ranch or medical setting.
  • Knowledge of pasture management strategies such as maintaining soil health, forage identification, infrastructure, and erosion control.
  • Experience in plumbing, welding, electrical, or specific trade.
  • Small and large engine repair.
  • Use of UTVs, tractors, and large farming equipment.
  • Current CPR/FA Certification or willingness to obtain.



Examples of Work:

  • Maintenance and repair of fences and roads.
  • Pasture care (spraying weeds, shredding fields, etc.).
  • Health monitoring of herds.
  • Monitoring guests in the drive-thru safari and interacting with guests by answering questions and enforcing park safety rules.
  • Assist in medical needs for pasture animals.
  • General grounds care, custodial, and landscaping.
  • Assist in construction and repair of animal enclosures and/or fencing.
  • General upkeep of zoo grounds and amenities with other departments/staff.

 


Eligible applicants must have open availability and understand that they are expected to work most weekends and holidays. Aggieland Safari is open to the public Thursday-Monday from  9AM-5PM.  Shifts are scheduled every day of the week between the hours of 8AM-6PM. 

 

Eligible applicants should also be able to work in all weather conditions, as our facility consists of mostly outdoor exhibits and be able to lift to 50 pounds regularly. Full-time employees are eligible for health insurance through the company after sixty days of employment. Applicants must pass a background check.
