Summary/Objective 

Under limited supervision, the mobile heavy equipment mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining small 5hp to large 500hp diesel and gas equipment.  The mobile mechanic primarily performs routine maintenance, visual inspections, troubleshoots, diagnosis malfunctions and repairs equipment on jobsites from service truck.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Performs inspections, fluid checks, lubrication and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment in assigned area.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnosis and perform repairs on all equipment from 5hp to 500hp, ie hand equipment, pickup trucks, as well as heavy diesel trucks and equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment from a mobile service truck in the field on jobs sites as well as in shops
  • Prepares and maintains records, reports and maintenance schedules for assigned region in Fleet Maintenance software
  • Requests/orders parts following the purchasing policy
  • Reports on problems and trends to Fleet Manager.
  • Work extended hours if needed and approved by Fleet Manger.
  • Follow Safety practices and procedures.
  • Ensure the work area is clean at the end of each day.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Use in an appropriate and safe manner hand, power, and specialized tools.
  • Must always practice defensive driving on and off the job
  • Foster and always communicate the Think Z culture with all employees
  • Report all accidents and incidents to the Fleet Manager and Safety Manager immediately

Work Environment


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.





Physical Demands


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



Expected Hours of Work


This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4p.m. with weekends and travel expected.



Travel


Extensive travel to various jobsites as required

 

Required Education and Experience

  1. Have 3-5 years’ experience troubleshooting and repairing
  2. Excellent mechanical aptitude
  3. Valid driver license and must have a clean driving record
  4. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  5. BOCES or Trade school training
  6. Experience with acetylene and electric arc welding



Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Ideal candidate must have 5 years’ experience troubleshooting and repairing with experience in mobile repair setting
  2. Applicable State Inspection Certification
  3. Applicable ASE certifications
  4. Welding and fabrication



Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. 10-year criminal background search.
  2. Clean driving history
  3. Pre-employment drug screen
  4. Valid Driver's License (REAL ID).
  5. Social Security Card.
  6. Able to obtain badging to all airports and military installations.
  7. Must have own tools
