Job Summary:
The Facilities and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the buildings and grounds of St. Joseph Catholic Church and School. Additionally, the Facilities and Maintenance Technician ensures that the buildings and grounds are neat, clean, and safe. The position reports to the Administrative Director. The Facilities and Maintenance Technician is expected to follow directions, be a self-starter, and require minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the Parish (St. Joseph Catholic Church – Killeen, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Killeen, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in routine drywall, painting, carpentry, basic plumbing, and moderate levels of construction.
· Knowledge of the equipment, methods, and materials used in ground maintenance.
· Knowledge of basic electricity and plumbing, including meter reading and basic plumbing repair.
· Knowledge of basic heating and cooling system operations.
· Knowledge of proper safety practices and procedures.
· Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing within time constraints.
· Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
· Skill in safely operating typical maintenance equipment, such as drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, various power saws, acetylene cutting torch, and welder.
· Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees and the public.
· Ability to recognize when to escalate notification of emergency situations to upper management.
· Ability to assist staff with complex problem resolution.
· Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.

Working Conditions:
· All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
· The Parish is an at-will employer.
· All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
· Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
· Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required. May need to work on days that the office is closed.
· Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct and speech including Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
· Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
· May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to parishes or other off-site locations.
