CLASSIFICATION: Hourly

Purpose and Scope

At Sage Oil Vac, Inc., the Welder Helper supports the welding and fabrication team in producing high-quality fluid handling equipment. This role is essential in preparing materials, assisting with welding operations, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist welders with cutting structural steel and operating shears, rolls, and tank fit-up tools.
  • Support the use and maintenance of welding equipment, including setup and basic troubleshooting.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and understand basic weld requirement symbols.
  • Assist in selecting and preparing wire and filler materials for various steel alloys, aluminum, and exotic metals.
  • Operate conventional and precision measuring instruments as directed.
  • Help with finish grinding applications using manual and power tools.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the area supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, construction, or welding support role.
  • Basic understanding of welding tools and processes (MIG, TIG, STICK).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced welders.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in manufacturing environment.
