We are currently seeking: A Senior Welder to join our team. In this role, you will perform general labor and maintenance work for City parks, streets, facilities and infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a crew of three (3) or more employees with the Projects Crew.
- Primary duties of park construction/renovation and various work orders in park systems.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of park areas and/or other City properties as assigned.
- Responsible for the day-to-day activities/tasks for this crew, including the appropriate recordkeeping.
- Performing duties such as digging ditches, removing debris, loading rocks, dirt and gravel work, concrete/masonry work, playground equipment construction and maintenance, etc.
- Operation of trucks and/or specialized equipment used in the construction of pavilions, playgrounds, cement walls, rock walls, building foundations, sidewalks, etc.
- Operating equipment such as tractors, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, truck/trailer, saws, grinders, drills and various maintenance hand tools.
- Job responsibilities include but not limited to loading and unloading parts and equipment manually and with mechanical assistance.
- Welding/cutting torch responsibilities may include replacing nozzles, contact tips, weld wire spools, rod, gas bottles and gauges as required. Sets up, adjusts and uses equipment by adjusting gas flow, wire feed rate and heat settings per standard practices. Cuts and weld metals as required on cast iron, brass, bronze, structural steel and pipe.
- Working from drawings, sketches, work orders and verbal instructions.
- Operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs general manual labor tasks in order to maintain parks, streets, infrastructure and City facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills; responds to emergencies as needed.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of parks and roadways; maintains landscaping and grounds; clears trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, structures, grounds and facilities.
- Cleans and maintains City facilities; makes minor facility repairs; assists with the construction of new facilities and installation of equipment.
- Cleans and stores hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures.
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to include some weekends and holidays (30 minutes for lunch).

Requirements and Skills:
- Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Safe and effective use of welding/cutting equipment.
- Skilled in operating basic hand tools. Good knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials used in the assigned work area.
- Skilled in completing simple records.
- Providing leadership and training to subordinates.
- Use of drawings, sketches, schematics, and blue prints for construction projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent; and two years of general work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Training in welding and/or two years of experience as a welder or any equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed outdoors.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods of time and work in extreme weather conditions. May be required to work with heights of up to 50 feet. Ability to withstand constant vibrations from equipment.
- Requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 117 pounds.
